cap-XX Pty Ltd, a developer of power sources, has commenced commercial production of "super capacitors," which are designed to boost the performance of handheld GSM and GPRS devices. The company also said it had received orders for super capacitor products from two North American manufacturers.

"While details of the new products are yet to be released, our super capacitors have been selected because they are the only way to supply the required power, battery life and keep within the voltage limits required for 3G and Class 10 or higher GPRS," stated Anthony Kongats, CEO of the company.

In addition, the super capacitors are capable of maintaining operation during power fluctuations and brownouts, avoiding the possibility of lost productivity. They also extend the life of batteries in portable devices by protecting them from power surges.

Design flexibility is another feature of the technology. Anthony Kongats said the products can be designed to meet specific electrical requirements and can be configured to maximum heights of around 1mm for single cells.
