Maxim controller has 3V to 14V input range

The MAX1952 synchronous, current-mode, step-down controller from Maxim Integrated Products has an input range of 3V to 14V, making it suitable for use in 3.3V, 5V, and 12V applications such as game consoles, printers, graphic and video cards, and RAID cards.

The 300kHz device has an all n-channel design and gate driver that provide up to 25A of output current, as well as provide a peak efficiency of 93 percent. It also has an output voltage range of 0.8V to 12.04V.

The MAX1952 features current-limit and short-circuit protection without current-sense resistors. It also provides thermal-overload protection provides for a rugged power-supply design.

Available in a 10-pin 5MAX package, the MAX1954EUB is priced at 95 cents for 1,000-piece quantities.
