The CS5308 two-phase, step-down controller from ON Semiconductor incorporates on-board gate drivers and PowerGood output to provide the necessary control functions required to power high-end desktop PCs and servers adhering to Intel's VRM 8.5 power supply specifications.

The SOIC-28 device also includes Vtt monitoring and timing functions, as well as a Vtt PowerGood to provide the precision timing required to effectively power-up memory.

It has a multi-phase architecture to deliver balanced load current for each phase and reduce I/O filter ripple, thereby reducing filter size and inductor values while increasing output inductor current slew rate. This also enables the reduction of I/O capacitor requirements.

The chip also offers the company's V2 technology that provides a transient response within 100ns while allowing operation at lower switching frequencies (200kHz to 800kHz) for improved efficiency and thermal response.

The CS5308 has a 3.3V, 1mA reference output and operates up to 1500C.
