Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector and Taiwan-based Solomon Technology Corp. have formed a strategic alliance to jointly develop GSM/GPRS modules. The companies plan to begin mass production in October 2002.
According to Jackson Chen, chairman of Solomon, the GSM/GPRS modules are integrated i.250 platforms that provide PDAs, smart phones, and other portable devices with data transfer GSM/GPRS capability. They also allow an independent design house, OEM or ODM to make low component-count GSM/GPRS wireless handsets.
"We expect to provide our customers reduced manufacturing cost and time-to-market GSM/GPRS modules," said Jackson Chen, chairman of SOLOMON. The company also aims to target the wireless data market with great emphasis in Taiwan and mainland China. |
