Power Integrations Inc. has announced the release of PI Expert v4.0 power supply design tool that supports designs from 3W to >200W and provides faster execution speeds, as well as an improved GUI.

Used to automate the design of single and multiple output flyback power supplies using the company's TOPSwitch and TinySwith products, the PI Expert software has improved its GUI, allowing multiple designs to be opened simultaneously. This enables the side-by-side comparison of designs and increase user productivity.

An "autodesign" feature has also been integrated that into the software to slash execution speeds. The company claims that the PI Expert determines the best-fit power IC, input capacitor, and complete transformer design details in <1min.

Other new features include an expert system incorporating Power Integrations' real-world power supply design experience to identify potential component mismatches and provide alternative solutions. A spreadsheet calculation tool and a viewer is also included to allow designs created with prior versions of PI Expert to be viewed.

The CD-ROM contains the design software, an updated library of the company's data sheets and application notes, and demonstration files presented in spoken English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

PI Expert v4.0 is offered free of charge and is available through the company's network of worldwide sales representatives. It can also be directly requested or downloaded from the company's website.
