Clare Micronix claims to be among the first to market with a grayscale organic-LED row-and-column driver/controller for commercial markets.

Its MXED301, priced from $8 in lots of 1,000, is designed for all monochrome, passive-matrix OLED displays. It has a 128-column current-sourcing anode driver and 80 common-cathode row drivers, supports standard digital interfaces and connects directly to OLED display panels.

The key to OLED systems "lies in driver IC solutions specifically designed to meet the requirements of the OLED's unique characteristics," said George Landsburg, VP of display-products marketing.
