Blue Sky lens captures nearly all of blue laser diode power

Blue Sky Research has announced that they have a system that can capture nearly all of the light power of blue laser diode, generating a high power, low-divergence, and diffraction-limited beam that will enable blue laser diodes to be commercially-viable.

By mounting the company's mLens lens directly in front of a blue laser diode's emitting edge, the mLens captures nearly all of the diode's power, circularizes the beam, and corrects any eccentricity, in a single step.

The company plans to offer the mLens-coupled blue laser as a FiberMax pigtailed module for single-mode output fibers. By using the mLens, the company claims that it can eliminate the need for complex multi-element optics, prism pairs, or hard beam-aperturing.
