Avnet Design Services and Xilinx Inc. announced the availability of a development kit for Xilinx's Virtex-II FPGA and an evaluation kit for the Spartan-IIE, designed to showcase the capabilities of both devices and reduce the development time and time-to-market for system applications.

The Virtex-II development kit include either a Virtex-II XC2V1500 or XC2V4000 FPGA, DDR-SDRAM and Flash memory, a PCI/PCI-X bus, and several Avnet vertical expansion Bus (Avbus) connectors. It also includes a PCB, complete design documentation, and demonstration programs.

"Using a full featured development kit with a high-capacity FPGA and an extensive set of support components can buy a designer a few critical weeks at the beginning of a design," said Warren Miller, VP of marketing, Avnet Design Services.

"Much of the FPGA development can take place on the development kit, allowing design to begin even before a hardware prototype is available," Miller added.

The Spartan-IIE evaluation comes with Xilinx's XC2S200E FPGA and also contains a PCB, complete design documentation, and demonstration programs. It can also be combined with a MicroBlaze soft processor core to provide additional processing power.

The Virtex-II development kit is priced at $2,500 with the XC2V4000 device, and $1,000 with the XC2V1500 FPGA. The Spartan-IIE evaluation kit is price at $249.
