Memory chip manufacturer Hynix Semiconductor Inc. has disclosed that it had discovered counterfeit copies of its 128Mb 133MHz SDRAM modules. The fraudulent modules, packaged in Taiwan with a forged Hynix tag, are being distributed in mainland China, Taiwan and Europe.

Based on Hynix's initial investigation, it appears that the counterfeit parts contain low-grade die from various memory manufacturers and are being sold into the "flea market" under the label Hynix.

Hynix has achieved worldwide brand recognition for its high quality standards. The company is hoping that this incident will serve as a warning to all customers and buyers. The company has also cautioned and advised customers to purchase products only from authorized distributors and sales offices to guarantee quality.
