Sipex Corp, has shipped the SP508 (20Gbps) and SP509 (40Gbps) multiprotocol transceiver ICs for use in WAN serial ports in networking equipment such as routers, switches, hubs, and other access devices.

Both 8-channel serial transceivers are claimed by the company to be capable of all common serial transmission protocols, and feature programmable DTE/DCE mode, on-chip termination resistors, and improved ESD tolerance (up to 15kV HBM) on its analog I/Os.

The current-mode architecture of the SP508 and SP509 V.35 drivers provide constant current into any attached serial data cable, eliminating voltage drops in the cable and ensuring compliant voltage swings at the inputs of the receiving serial ports.

Improved ESD tolerance on the analog I/O pins and the flow-through pin out minimizes serial port damage when data cables are connected and disconnected. Both ICs also operate from 5V sources and feature the company's on-chip charge pump that supports output voltage swings required to meet all of the serial communications standards.

Pricing starts at $28.28 for the SP508 in the BGA package and $37.05 for the SP509 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
