Linear Tech controller powers AMD Hammer CPUs
Keywords:ltc3719? synchronous step down controller? amd sledgehammer? amd clawhammer? clawhammer cpu?
The IC offers two power sections that balance the output power between the power components, thereby reducing thermal stress while increasing the reliability of MOSFETs, inductors, and capacitors. The current sensing feature also facilitates thermal management by eliminating hot spots and the need for heatsinks.
The 36-lead SSOP device also features PolyPhase capability that reduces the need for input and output capacitors. It also has protection functions such as current foldback, short-circuit shutdown, and an overvoltage soft latch.
The LTC3719's 5-bit VID code corresponds to the core voltage range of AMD's Hammer CPUs. Core voltage ranges from 0.8V to 1.55V, while the core current ranges between 15A to 40A. The controller operates up to 95 percent efficiency from a 4.5V to 36V input voltage source.
The LTC3719 is priced starting at $4.35 each in 1,000-piece quantities. |
