Highwave ships C-, L-band erbium-doped fibers

Highwave Optical Technologies has announced the development of C-band and L-band erbium-doped fibers for use in erbium-doped fiber amplifier in metro networks, as well as optical amplifiers for CATV, LH, and ULH applications.

The EXC Band-001 and EXC Band-002 C-band fibers operate from 1,530nm to 1,570nm and produce an output power of 24dBm. The fibers have a cladding of 1255m(x), a splice loss of <0.15dB, and have a tensile strength >3.5GPa.

Designed for HI1060 pigtailing, the EXC Band-001 has a peak absorption of 8dB/m (1,530dBm). It has a 45m(x) core and offers a background loss of <8dB/km (1,200nm).

The EXC Band-002 is designed for HI980 pigtailing and has a peak absorption of up to 6.5dB/m, (1,530nm). The fiber has a 3.35m(x) core and a background loss of <6dB/km.

The EXL Band-001 L-band fiber operates from 1,570nm to 1,611nm and produces an output power of 25dBm. Suitable for HI980 and SMF28 pigtailing, the fiber has a core diameter of 45m and experiences <0.15dB splicing loss, as well as a background loss of <8dB/km (1,200nm). It offers a peak absorption of up to 30dB/m at 1,530nm.

The company also announced that the C- and L-band fibers will also be offered in the 805m reduced cladding version.
