Canopus Corp. has announced the availability of the ADVC-50 media converter that allows users to convert analog video materials to digital video (DV), in Macintosh or Windows-based systems. The converted DV streams are transferred to the PC via an IEEE 1394 interface and stored on the HDD for editing.

The converter fits into the PC's 5-inch bay or open PCI bus slot, and features a DV codec technology found in the company's line of DV capture cards. The stand-alone device supports NTSC, PAL, S-Video and composite video formats. It is also claimed to support locked audio to assure A/V synchronization.

The ADVC-50 is powered from the PCI bus or an internal 4-pin power plug. The device provides a 4-pin i.LINK connecter on the back panel, 6-pin internal i.LINK connector, and S-Video and composite video inputs.

The ADVC-50 is priced at $199.
