Oxford bridge IC supports 1394B, USB 2.0

The OXUF922 programmable bridge IC from Oxford Semiconductor Ltd combines an 800Mbps 1394B Link layer and PHY controller with a 480Mbps USB 2.0 PHY, providing an integrated solution for high-speed data streaming in asynchronous applications.

The 1394B (FireWire) standard delivers twice the bandwidth of 1394A, is backwards-compatible, and supports longer cable lengths for home and office networking. The inclusion of the USB 2.0 PHY and Link layer also provides connectivity with any PC platform over USB1.X.

Based on the company's OXFW911 IDE/1394 bridge chip, the OXUF922 offers a 133MHz IDE controller that handles a data rate of 80MBps, complying with the ATA6 high-density drive specification and assuring compatibility with magnetic, optical and compact Flash media. In non-storage applications, the IDE interface can be reconfigured as a DMA host controller port.

A 12Mbps buffered UART is also included which provides a direct data communication interface to modems and Bluetooth radios and allows 'back channel' monitoring in RAID applications. An on-chip ARM7TDI processor is used to control data flow and enable products to be developed using the C programming environment.
