The MAX2150 broadband RF transmitter IC from Maxim Integrated Products integrates an on-chip sigma-delta fractional-N synthesizer that has up to 28 bits of fractionalization, allowing 100mHz frequency resolution over the operating frequency range of 700MHz to 2.3GHz.

With the addition of an external VCO, the chip forms the basis for a complete broadband transmit system, either at IF or RF. Applications include satellite internet transmitters, LMDS, MMDS, and wireless broadband systems.

By applying the sigma-delta fractional-N synthesis, the MAX2150 also realizes an in-loop phase noise -100dBc/Hz.

The 6-by-6mm, 228-pin QFN device also integrates a wideband I/Q modulator, local oscillator buffer, and crystal oscillator. In addition, control features such as multiple power-down modes and RF mute for quiet frequency synthesis are included.

The MAX2150 operates from a single 3.3V supply over -400C to 850C and is quoted at $9.98 (1,000-up).
