Raytheon Co. has formed a compound semiconductor foundry alliance with Taiwan-based Win Semiconductors Corp. As part of the alliance, Win will manufacture GaAs on a foundry basis for Raytheon's RF Components (RRFC) operation while Raytheon will invest $5 million in the company. The companies will also develop new process technologies for use in wireless applications. Raytheon is developing PA devices and other chips for handsets and WLANs.

"We are delighted to be among the first to make use of Win's advanced production line and process technology," said Steven Kaspar, president of Raytheon RF Components. "Expanding operations into Asia, continual technology development and access to Win's foundry strengthens our position as a key supplier to the wireless market. This alliance also allows our RF Components [operation] to focus its internal manufacturing capabilities on lower volume commercial, aerospace and defense products."
