iS3 designs video processor on Avant! Astro

Integrated Semiconductor Supply Solutions Ltd (iS3), an SoC design company, has successfully taped out a 0.135m 125MHz video processor SoC, with 1-million-gate standard cells over a MGb of memory and analog macrocells, using Avant!'s Astro physical design solution.

According to Avant!, iS3 also achieved complete design closure for both timing and signal integrity in half the time required by their previous design flow using Astro and Avant!'s Milkyway-based SinglePass-SoC solution.

Avant!'s Astro is the advanced ultra-deep-submicron (UDSM) design-closure solution which incorporates PhySiSys technology, an advanced set of concurrently applied logical and physical optimizations to meet the tough timing, signal integrity, and power integrity requirements for the most complex UDSM designs. The Milkyway-DUO architecture, on the other hand, is a data architecture in Astro that allows concurrent optimization of timing, logic, placement, clocks, signal integrity, power integrity, and routing.

"Astro enabled us to meet the aggressive timing requirements of the design and also to complete the design with full signal integrity," said James Eyre, technical director at iS3. "The concurrent optimization technology in Astro prevented potential iterations that would have been necessary in the previous flow," Eyre adds.
