Transition Networks Inc. has released its first stand-alone T1/E1 media converter with remote management capability that allows transmission of T1 signaling over single-mode fiber-optic cable up to distances of 80km.

The T1/E1 media converters enable companies to run full diagnostic testing on the remote copper and fiber link without additional management hardware of software. The company also claims that service providers can deliver T1/E1 circuits to customers across available dark fiber from their CO using this technology.

The T1/E1 devices support B8Zs and AMI, and allow for diagnostics such as loopback and TAOS. They also incorporate alarm indication signaling, dry relay contacts, and jitter attenuators to optimize bit error rate performance.

The T1/E1 converters are offered in both a stand-alone form factor as well as a chassis module for use in the company's PointSystem chassis family. The management of the converters can be done manually using dip-switches on each converter or via Transition's FocalPoint management software platform via SNMP remotely by GUI, or Web-based interface.

The T1/E1 converters are priced ranging from $795 to $1155, depending on the configuration.
