Molex fiber-optic modules provide up to 32.4Gbps throughput

Molex has announced the availability of the ParaLink-P pluggable 12-channel parallel modules that provide a total data throughput of up to 32.4Gbps (200m, 62.55m core multimode fiber) in optical data transfer applications such as optical cross-connect switches and terabit routers.

The devices come in separate 12-channel transmitter and receiver modules, and plug into a 10-by-10 BGA socket mounted on the motherboard. The transmitter is based on a VCSEL array with monitor feedback, while the receiver has a GaAs PIN photodetector array.

Both modules measure 54-by-18-by-8.4mm and operate from a 3.3V supply, drawing 250mA and dissipating <1W. They have an MT-based MPO/MTP receptacle optical interface to ensure connection to a standard 12-fiber based ribbon cable.

The ParaLink-P modules are functionally-compatible with Infineon AG's PAROLI optical interconnect devices.
