Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has announced the release of its FunctionPAK series of synchronous buck dc/dc converters that measures a maximum 14.7-by-12.2-by-3mm and delivers a power density of >100W/inch3.

The devices cover inputs ranging from 2.7V to 6V and outputs from 1.5V to 3.6V, making them suitable to stabilize rechargeable battery outputs, shift dc voltage levels, filter noise, and reduce ripple in power supplies for cell phone, notebook PCs, digital cameras, and other portable electronic devices.

The FX5545G201 provides an output power of 3W and a maximum current of 1A, 5W and 1.5A for the FX5545G005, 6.5W and 2A for the FX5545G105, 8W and 2.5A for the FX5545G205, and 10W and 3A for the FX5545G305.

All five converters feature a programmable topology, allowing designers to power multiple loads and utilize various battery configurations and chemistries with a single device.

Each FunctionPAK converter draws 1mA of current in shutdown mode and features programmable PWM and PSM output controls to improve power conversion efficiency in standby and idle modes, thereby prolonging overall battery life and talk time in cell phones.

The 20-port BGA/LGA devices feature the same pin-outs, allowing designers to use just one layout for all models, all output voltages, and all power or current variations. The FunctionPAK can also be supplied with a user-selectable output voltage and is rated for operation from -400C to 850C.
