The QW015 quarter-brick dc/dc converter from Tyco Electronics Power Systems uses synchronous rectification and innovative packaging to operate at 91 percent efficiency at 3.3Vdc.

Designed to power IP telephony applications, the device provides an I/O isolation of 2.25kVdc also achieves an efficiency of 88 percent (1.8Vdc). It has an 8.5mm profile and offers 30mVpp of noise and ripple, eliminating the need for additional filtering.

The device operates over an input voltage range between 36Vdc to 75Vdc and can deliver 10A (5Vdc), 15A (3.3Vdc), and 20A at 2.5, 1.8, 1.5, 1.2 and 1Vdc. Its open-frame construction allows it to maintain full current outputs in temperatures ranging from -400C to 850C.

A surface mount version is also available and uses a column-pin connector that enables the module to self-adjust on the customer board.

Built-in safety features include overtemperature, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection as well as input undervoltage protection. The converter also offers remote on/off, regulated output voltages, and monotonic startup into a pre-biased output.

The QW015 is priced at $53.60 in 1,000-unit quantities.
