SMDI receives patent for enhancing fiber-optic transmitters

Sirenza Microdevices Inc., a designer and supplier of RF components for communications equipment manufacturers, has received a U.S. patent entitled "Laser Driver Pre-emphasis and De-emphasis Method and/or Architecture with Tuning and Duty Cycle Control" with patent number 6,373,346.

The issued patent discloses an analog method for pre-shaping data in order to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of VCSEL-based fiber-optic transmitters. This technique is being applied to SMDI products developed for 10Gb Ethernet systems.

SMDI's latest patent is one of a number of pending patents which hopes to enhance the company's ability to provide high-performance RF product solutions while realizing value from its ongoing research and development programs.
