Agere serdes macrocell reduces power consumption

Agere Systems has announced the availability of the TSDR04 serdes macrocell that consumes 200mW per channel70 percent less than competing SONET-compliant devices.

The macrocell can be integrated into the company's ASICs and Netlight optoelectronic transceiver for use in OC-48 networks. The company claims that by incorporating a single four-channel TSDR04 serdes into ASIC, customers eliminate four separate MUX/DEMUX devices from a four-port system, thereby lowering silicon costs and the area used per port.

The SerDes macrocell performs I/O functions that increase and decrease the transmission speed and reception of voice, data, and video signals through copper and fiber-optic cables.
