The TS4871, TS4872, and TS4860 audio power amplifiers from STMicroelectronics deliver 1W of continuous rms output power into an 8W load at 5V and feature a standby mode that reduces supply current to <10nA.

Designed for use in portable audio devices such as mobile phones and PDAs, the amplifiers also provide a 75dB power supply rejection ratio (217Hz). Distortion is at 0.05 percent for the TS4872 and 0.1 percent for the TS4890 and TS4871 devices. The parts also offer rail-to-rail operation on the output of the TS4890 and TS4871, and on the I/O of the TS4872.

The amplifiers operate from 5.5V down to 2.2V. An external pin can be used to control the standby mode, while external gain-setting resistors can configure the unity-gain stable amplifier. An internal thermal shutdown protection is also provided.

The parts are available in miniature SO-8 and SO-8 packages for the TS4890 and TS4871, and as an eight-bump flip-chip for the TS4872. Operating temperature range is from -400C to 850C.
