Fujitsu, Toshiba to explore possible collaboration in SoC R&D

Fujitsu Ltd and Toshiba Corp. have agreed to explore a comprehensive collaboration focusing on developing SoC solutions at 100nm and finer.

Fujitsu and Toshiba will establish several working groups to investigate possible collaboration in such areas as standardization of design and development platforms, silicon technology, development of processor cores and other intellectual property, and the development of advanced LSIs for communications and other fields.

Combining both companies' manufacturing resources, intellectual property and technology is expected to enable them to optimize resource utilization and development of optimized SoC products. Eventually, Fujitsu and Toshiba will seek ways to expand the scope of their partnership including the possibility of integrating their operations.
