Optical communications companies in Taiwan have reported a 27 percent increase in orders for the first few months of 2002, compared to 2001, the Industrial Technology Intelligence Services reports.

Optical fibers and cables captured 36 percent of the orders, followed by connectors and couplers with 29 percent, and transceivers, amplifiers, optical transmitters and receiver modules with 25 percent.

According to Champion Wang, director of ITIS, thin-film filters are also gaining ground in the Taiwan market. Last year, many optical communications companies have added thin-film filters to their production line. Wang also predicts AWG filters designed for DWDMs to be another up and coming product, having several companies entering the line early this year.
