SMC Networks, a provider of wired and wireless networking solutions, and Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) have partnered to deliver 802.11b-compatible WLAN solutions that provide higher speeds and increased WLAN coverage area for consumers.

Since TI's ACX100 802.11b MAC/baseband integrated chip is backwards compatible with existing 802.11b networks and products, SMC's EZ Connect Turbo 802.11 products can increase the performance of WLANs by extending the distance of the network up to 30 percent.

The ACX100 also leverages advanced multi-path technology which is expected to enable SMC to provide 802.11b (11Mbps CCK) products with improved performance in noisy, interference-rich environments. The first SMC WLAN products based on TI's ACX100 will be introduced in the upcoming weeks.
