Micrel Semiconductor Inc. has announced the shipment of its MIC3750X series of 5A LDO regulators, which it claims to be half the thickness of regulators in traditional TO-263 packaging while providing the same power handling capability.

Shipped in the company's S-Pak casing, the LDOs provide 1.5V, 1.8V, or 2.5V from a minimum supply of 2.25V or 3V with a dropout of 500mV over all conditions. The devices are suited for powering low-voltage DSPs, microcontrollers, and ASICs.

The MIC37500 is a the basic three-terminal device that features logic enable input and is full protected fro reverse battery, reverse current, current limit, and thermal shutdown.

The MIC37501 includes an error flag to warn of fault conditions and an on/off enable pin, while the MIC37502 adds an adjustable output voltage feature as well as on/off control of the output voltage.

All three devices operate from -400C to 1250C and feature 5Cap designs, offering stability when driving high capacitance loads. The 5Cap capability permits the devices to use either tantalum or ceramic capacitors.

Pricing starts at $3.94 in quantities of 1,000 units.
