Samsung Electro-Mechanics has selected the advanced demodulator chip of Zarlink Semiconductor for its latest terrestrial network interface module (TNIM) that will power set-top boxes (STB) and TV receivers targeted for the terrestrial digital TV receiver consumer market.

Zarlink's MT351 COFDM demodulator performs the critical demodulation and auto-scan functions, enabling the module to detect and tune digital TV receiver channels delivered by terrestrial links. Samsung has designed Zarlink's MT351 demodulator into its TNIM, a key component inside STBs and TV receivers that comply with the digital video broadcast for terrestrial (DVB-T) standard.

Samsung's off-the-shelf TNIM is expected to speed time-to-market by reducing the complexity and risk of STB and digital television receiver design. The TNIM receives incoming RF television receiver signals, processes them, and outputs high-resolution MPEG2 data.

Zarlink has worked closely with Samsung Electro-Mechanics and its customers to optimize MT351's performance and low-power characteristics. Samsung now produces and markets the TNIM to global customers.
