ADI ships dual-channel W-CDMA receive signal processor

The VersaCOMM AD6634 dual-channel receive signal processor (RSP) from Analog Devices Inc. performs 80MSa/s in the input side and outputs signals into a 16-bit parallel output port, enabling the device to accommodate high data rate outputs such as W-CDMA applications.

The 196-pin BGA device is capable of processing up to two W-CDMA channels or four GSM/EDGE or IS-136 channels. Each of the AD6634's channels consists of a frequency translator, two fixed-coefficient decimating filters, and a programmable-coefficient decimating filter.

Two wideband crossbar-switched parallel input ports offer enhanced input signal reconfigurability for multi-carrier, diversity, and phased-sector antenna arrays. Link ports are provided to enable glueless interfaces to the company's TigerSHARC DSP core.

Also integrated are interpolating half-band filters that increase the output data rate to four times the chip rate, and an embedded digital AGC circuitry that permits data scaling and power data to be fed directly to a "rake" receiver in CDMA-based applications.

The RSP serves as the interface between the DSP and high-speed converter in a multi-carrier transceiver. In cellular base stations, it creates baseband data for a DSP from high-bandwidth data provided by an ADC.

The AD6634 operates over the industrial temperature range of -400C to 700C and is priced at $42.50 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
