The STLC1 LED cluster driver from STMicroelectronics integrates input buffers, individual low-side drivers, and a remote indicator for lamp failure, making the monolithic device suitable to control, drive, protect, and diagnose an automobile's rear light cluster.

Housed in a PowerSO-20 package, the surface-mount device operates from 9V to 24V and provides up to 8A of current-limited output from its 180kHz SMPS. It also withstands up to 60V load dump and is specified from -400C to 1250C.

The output voltage may be temperature compensated for any number of series connected LEDs, with low-side current control for each light ensuring that light output is maintained constant.

The IC can drive up to three LED arrays and also features a built-in thermal protection for the integrated switching transistors.
