Cypress Semiconductor has announced the availability of the CYS25G0102DX OC-48/STM-16 serdes for use in OC-48/STM-16 switches, routers, DWDM systems and add/drop MUXs.

Fabricated using the company's internally-developed SiGe Process, the 11-by-11mm device integrates a serializer, deserializer, CDR, clock synthesis, and a limiting amplifier into a single chip.

The company claims that the device consumes less than half the power and occupies less than half the board space of competing 16-bit solutions.

The CYS25G0102DX provides full Bellcore and ITU compliance, multiple loop-back and loop-through modes, and a flexible 16-bit interface. The chip can be interfaced with the company's POSIC2GVC virtual concatenation framer to further simplify transmission of multiple protocols over SONET/SDH systems.

Production samples of CYS25G0102DX are shipped in a 120-pin TQFP and will be also be available in a 100-ball BGA version later this year.
