Altera Corp. has upgraded its DSP Builder design tool to provide support for the Stratix device family, as well as include an interface to the Quartus II design software's SignalTap embedded logic analyzer.

Aimed at simplifying the development of DSP systems targeted for Altera's PLD products, the DSP Builder v2.0 is claimed to provide a seamless design flow in which designers perform algorithmic design and system-level integration in MathWorks' MATLAB and Simulink software, respectively, then port the design to HDL for use in the Quartus II software.

The DSP Builder enables designers to automatically generate pre-verified RTL output filesincluding an RTL design and testbenchfrom the Simulink software. The interface to the logic analyzer allows the software to probe the internal nodes of the DSP development board from the MATLAB workspace.

Version 2.0 also provides designers an interface to Altera's SOPC Builder, a system generation tool for the development of system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) applications. The SOPC Builder interface allows the user to build systems that incorporate Simulink designs, Altera Nios embedded processors, and IP cores.

Additional features of DSP Builder v2.0 include Altera's OpenCore Plus free test drive DSP IP cores and support for black-box components, allowing the DSP Builder to facilitate system-level integration and enable designers to implement their own customized logic.

OpenCore Plus IP cores currently available with DSP Builder version 2.0 include a Viterbi compiler, constellation mapper/demapper, Reed-Solomon compiler, numerically controlled oscillator, FFT, infinite impulse response, and symbol interleaver/deinterleaver.

Altera's DSP Builder v2.0 is available now to customers with a current DSP Builder subscription. Subscription pricing is $1,995 and includes 12 months of software upgrades. The DSP Builder tool is available for download for free 30-day evaluation from Altera's DSP solutions center at
