DisplaySearch has released its 2002 FPD Producer Profile Report, profiling all aspects of operations of 146 FPD manufacturers and developers worldwide and highlighting the performance of the TFT-LCD industry the past year.

According to the report, overall revenue for TFT-LCDs fell 13 percent in 2001 but is expected to rise by 67 percent in 2002, due to stronger demand and fab-utilization.

Meanwhile, notebook module revenues have declined by 41 percent in 2001 as ASPs fell by over 50 percent. However, revenues are expected to bounce back with an increase of 53 percent. The 15-inch notebook module market segment has been enjoying growth, rising at an average of 120 percent per year from 1999 to 2002. Its 2002 share is expected to more than double to 30 percent.

LCD monitor module revenues on the other hand, rose by 23 percent last year, nearly catching up with notebook module revenues. In 2002, LCD monitor module revenues are seen to account for the largest share of the large-area market with a 54 percent share.

As for TFT-LCD shipments, Taiwan is expected to overtake South Korea in large-area models with a 39 percent share and a 135 percent growth rate in 2002.
