International Rectifier's IRF7338 is a 12V complementary n-channel and p-channel pair of HEXFET power MOSFETs in a single SO-8 package. It can be sued in instant power-up circuits for USB ports, DDR DRAM applications, and other circuits requiring a SPDT device to switch between a standby voltage and a core voltage rail.

In DDR memory applications, the IRF7338, when driven by a simple op amp, can provide an alternate source and sink paths for the termination terminal voltage. In USB applications, the MOSFET can instantaneously switch the USB port between the 5V standby rail and the 5V core rail. In PCI applications, it can be used to switch between the 3.3V standby rail and 3.3V core rail.

"The device is optimized for fast switching from standby to full power, and vice versa, in computers supporting ACPI," explains Marketing Manager Carl Blake.

The p-channel section can switch current of up to 3A, while the n-channel can switch up to 6.3A. Both channels have low gate charge to simplify gate driver circuitry.

The IRF7338 is offered at 24 cents each, in 10,000-unit quantities.
