Intel ships 2GHz mobile PC microprocessor

Intel Corp. has begun shipping what is claimed to be the world's first microprocessor designed for mobile PCs to operate at 2GHz. The Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor M delivers high performance to enable richer Internet experience, faster digital media, increased business productivity and new applications such as wireless gaming.
At the same time, Intel has also announced the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor M at 1.9GHz and mobile Intel Celeron processors operating at 1.5GHz, 1.4GHz and 1.33GHz. The 1.5GHz and 1.4GHs Celeron processors feature a 400MHz system bus, while the 1.33GHz device has a 133MHz system bus.
Offered in micro-flip-chip pin-grid array (5FCPGA) packaging, the mobile processors are designed on the company's 0.135m technology, delivering high performance at low power consumption. They integrate 55 million transistors, and support Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology, as well as deeper sleep alert state.
In 1,000-unit quantities, the Mobile Pentium 4 processors operating at 2GHz and 1.9GHz are quoted at $637 and $401, respectively. The mobile Celeron processors are priced at $170 (1.5GHz), $149 (1.4GHz) and $134 (1.33GHz) in similar quantities. |
