Texas Instruments Inc. has shipped the PT5400 SWIFT power module that provides up to 6A of output current and is targeted to point-of-load applications such as DSPs, ASICs, FPGAs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers used in communications, networking, and computing devices.

The module features the company's TPS54610 SWIFT regulator and supports input voltages of 3.3V and 5V, as well as output voltages ranging from 1V to 3.3V. Further output voltage adjustment can be achieved by adding an external resistor.

The device operates at 93 percent efficiency (4A) and provides protection features such as short-circuit, standby, output-inhibit, and thermal shutdown.

Packaged in TI's Excalibur case, the PT4500 is available in 5-pin SIP configuration, surface-mount, horizontal through-hole and vertical through-hole options. The module can also be reflowed with the entire motherboard assembly at temperatures up to 2150C, eliminating post-reflow mounting steps in board manufacture.

Pricing per module in quantities of 1,000 is $11.82.
