Microchip Technology has announced the availability of the 24LC128 128Kb and 24LC256 256Kb I2C serial EEPROMs housed in an 8-lead MSOP casing, and are suitable for use in portable and handheld devices, as well as PC peripherals, sensors, and alarms.

Designed using the company's PMOS Electricity Erasable Cell process technology, the EEPROMs extend the company's 8-lead MSOP casing with a wider range of densities from 1Kb through 256Kb.

The 8-lead MSOP is 23 percent smaller than the TSSOP and is half the size of SOIC packages. In addition, the 24LC128 and 24LC256 devices have a 1.1mm profile, making them suitable for cellphones, PC cards or other height-restricted applications.

The 24LCXX EEPROM family operates down to 2.5V and has an active current <1mA and standby current <15A.
