Toshiba to take full control of China-based joint venture

Toshiba Corp. will purchase the stake of its partner Huajin Electronics Group Corp., a semiconductor manufacturer, in a bid take full control of its China-based IC-assembly joint venture Wuxi Huazhi Semiconductor Co. Ltd. The joint venture is an inspection and assembly company of bipolar and BiCMOS ICs for TV

receiver and audio applications.

According to Toshiba, Wuxi Huazhi will become Toshiba Semiconductor (Wuxi) Co. Ltd and will move to a new industrial park in Wuxi, China. Toshiba plans to raise production capacity from Wuxi Huazhi's current 3 million units a month to 30 million units a month. Toshiba Semiconductor Wuxi is also expected to eventually diversify into discrete devices.
