Analog Devices Inc. has introduced its AD183X series of audio codecs that provide 24-bit I/O resolution and a sampling rate of up to 96kHz.

Designed for use in home theater systems, DVD players, automotive audio systems, A/V receivers, and digital audio effects processors, the codecs operate from a single 5V supply, contain an on-chip 2.25V reference, and feature a flexible serial interface that allows a glueless connection to a variety of DSPs, S/PDIF receivers and sample-rate converters.

The 52-lead MQFP devices also feature a TDM mode and daisy chaining capability to allow up to 16 channels to be driven from a single DSP serial port.

The AD1835 and AD1837 contain eight DACs, while the AD1838 and AD1839 versions incorporate six DACs. The AD1835 and AD1838 features differential outputs, while the AD1837 and AD1839 have single ended outputs. All models contain two differential-input ADCs and operate at the industrial temperature range of -400C to 850C.

The AD1835 is priced at US$9.04 per unit, the AD1837 at US$8.81 per unit, the AD1838 at US$8.70 per unit and the AD1839 at US$8.48 per unit, each in 1,000-piece quantities.
