Tripath Technology Inc.'s Class-T TA2020 digital audio amplifier chip will be integrated into Sony's latest CMT-EX5 micro component system.

According to Tripath, its Class-T 1-bit digital audio amplifiers rely on a fundamentally new approach to amplifier design. Instead of utilizing a conventional pulse width modulation, the Class-T employs multiple signal processing techniques, including adaptive and predicative processing, noise shaping, pre-distortion and sigma delta modulation.

Tripath has begun shipping the Class-T 1-bit digital audio amplifiers in volume to Sony last quarter. Meanwhile, Sony's micro component systems are expected to be available to the market later this year.
