Elpida samples DDR-II memories

Elpida Memory Inc. is sampling 512Mb, DDR-II SDRAMs with twice the speed of DDR-I devices, at 533Mbps, and 30 percent lower power consumption.

They have an SSTL 1.8V standard interface and features such as on-die termination for maximum signal integrity, off-chip output driver impedance calibration, differential strobe and several bus utilization enhancements.

Jun Kitano, director of technical marketing, said the enhancements require only minimal design changes. The parts are built in a 0.135m process.

Now sampling are the 32Mword-by-4 bit four-bank EDE5104G, the 16Mword-by-8 bit four-bank EDE5108G, and the 8Mword-by-16 bit four-bank EDE5116G. Each is priced at $250 in lots of 1,000. Volume deliveries are planned for the first quarter of 2003.
