Hitachi America Ltd has added a lightweight 15-inch monitor to its LCD value line. The CML152 monitor weighs only 6.6 pounds, making it one of the lightest LCD monitors available, according to Hitachi. It provides distortion-free images with 350:1 contrast and 250-nit brightness.

The monitor is said to provide sharp images and vibrant colors along with plug-and-play functionality. Thanks to its new "brickless" design, no external power converter is needed. It uses a standard monitor power cord for increased compatibility and easier wall-mounting installations. The monitor has a carrying handle on the back for added convenience.

Delivering a full 15-inch viewing area (304-by-228 mm), the LCD monitor provides a 15-pin D-sub input. Prime recommended resolution is 1,024x768 pixels at 75Hz or 60Hz. Pixel pitch is 0.297mm. The monitor is compatible with both PCs and Macs.

The monitors will begin shipping to Hitachi's distributors this month. The company's monitors come with a three-year warranty and a suggested resale price of $449 (ivory) and $459 (black).
