Matsushita Electric Ind. Co. Ltd has announced that it is sampling a video microprocessor series that incorporates comb filter and video chroma jungle (VCJ) functions, as well as NTSC analog signal processing, into a single-chip solution, making it possible to deliver improved television receiver performance, while reducing chassis cost.

Traditional analog television circuitry consisted of two or more chips, including a tuning microprocessor, a VCJ, and a comb filter. In addition, discrete peripheral parts were required in order to connect the ICs.

Matushita's LSI includes firmware that delivers picture adjustment functions including gradation compensation and dynamic gamma compensation. The microprocessor also includes on-screen display functions that feature 4,096 color and an alpha bend function.

Samples of the LSI are available and are priced at about $8.55.
