Efficient Networks Inc., a subsidiary of Siemens Corp., and Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) will be working together in the development of next-generation ADSL modems to be deployed worldwide.

Efficient will be developing products based on TI's family of ADSL CPE chipsets for bridges, routers and residential gateways. TI's AR5 chipsets are based on its own broadband communications processors, DSP-based ADSL PHY technology and firmware.

According to TI, its ADSL CPE chipset provides a complete system solution, enabling Efficient Networks to quickly develop and deploy DSL products. Additionally, because the AR5 possesses an open software architecture, Efficient can add differentiating higher-layer networking and application software to TI's broadband communications processors.
