FCI Communications, Data, and Consumer division has announced the development of the Slimline USB+Power connector that offers a USB 2.0 type A receptacle with five additional power lines integrated above the USB receptacle.

The power lines provide >6A of additional power, making the connector suitable for use in high-power peripherals such as re-writable optical drives, high-capacity magnetic drives, docking cradles, and speakers. Bi-directional power is possible through the reverse-polarity pin.

"The additional power provided through the 5 extra lines eliminates the need for a separate peripheral power supply", said Paul Brown, FCI Product Manager. "Fewer wires, a simple, cleaner implementation and a lower cost allow USB devise designers to offer consumers great value."
