Maxim controllers track up to 4V

The MAX5039 and MAX5040 voltage tracking controllers from Maxim Integrated Products operate from a 2.5V to 5.5V supply voltage and provide tracking for core voltages (VCORE) of 0.8V to 4V, as well as I/O voltages of VCORE to 4V.

Suited for use in PowerPC, DSP, and ASIC power supplies, the devices provide intelligent control to power systems where two power supplies need to track and limit the voltage difference during power-up and power-down.

Both devices drive an external n-channel MOSFET connected between two voltage rails, allowing <200mV deviation between I/O and core voltage during power-up and power-down. In addition, the devices automatically disable the power supplies in case of a short-circuit condition.

The MAX5040 has the same functionality as the MAX5039, but also includes an auxiliary comparator for voltage monitoring and a power-good output.

The MAX5039 and MAX5040 are available in 8-pin and 10-pin microMAX packages, respectively, and are rated for operation over the extended-industrial temperature range. Prices start at 98 cents for the MAX5039 and $1.14 for the MAX5040 (1,000 units up).
