Clare Micronix has announced the availability of the MXED401 driver targeted for use in non-volatile reflective LCDs, specifically bi-stable and multi-stable cholesteric (Ch) LCD panels.

The cascadable MXED401 features 200 phase-controlled voltage data outputs, a built-in voltage regulator to minimize input power supply requirements, and a 2.5V to 5V logic supply.

It is manufactured in a high-voltage (30V) CMOS process and supports multilevel grayscale performance and bidirectional serial programmability.

High contrast and low power applications, such as e-books, non-volatile electronic signage, GPS, and PDAs are expected to adopt Ch LCDs and other paper-like display technologies. With such displays, power is consumed only when the image is updated, and viewability requirements are claimed to be comparable to newspaper, from very low ambient light to bright sunlight.

Pricing starts at $10.00 for quantities of 1,000 to 9,999.
