Three-Five Systems Inc. has introduced the Brillian Z86D-3 SVGA near-to-eye microdisplay that offers a pixel fill factor of 93 percent, resulting to bright, non-pixilated, smooth images at a magnification rate of as high as 150x.

Using microdisplay technology acquired from Zight Corp., the Brillian Z86D-3 device is suited for 2D and 3D full-motion video applications and can be used in monocular, binocular, or stereo electro-optic designs.

Intended applications for the display include nightvision systems, wearable computing applications, video telescopes, and microscopes. It can also be embedded into electronic viewfinders or in head-mounted displays.

Backward-compatible with Zight's previous products, the Brillian Z86D-3 offers a frame rate of 120Hz, or 360Hz RGB colors per second, eliminating the color break up and flicker typically exhibited by field sequential displays.

The display is also designed to withstand temperatures of -200C to 700C and delivers an MTTF of almost 1 million hours.
