Agere Systems has developed a preamplifier IC using an advanced 0.255m SiGe technology. According to Agere, the SiGe semiconductor materials technology is designed to deliver high-bandwidth, low-power preamplifiers with transistors capable of operating at speeds four times faster compared to preamplifiers being sold in the market.

The company hopes to leverage its expertise using the SiGe process in components for wireless and network transport solutions to customers' needs. Sampling of Agere's SiGe preamplifiers is scheduled to be available in Q4 of this year, and ramp up volume production is expected by the middle of next year.
